âž” Chair and Vice Chair (Jian-Jia and Hsin-Fang)

European Taiwanese Conference for Science and Technology 2025 in Dresden

Jian-Jia mentioned that next Tuesday he will discuss with his colleague the ECST annual meeting in Dresden. He suggested not co-organizing with NSTC this year, as was done last year. The tentative date for the meeting is early September. We need to start preparing the agenda and inviting speakers, such as Dr. Hsueh, the director from MPI, Tübingen. Jian-Jia, Joyce, and Chih-Jen will coordinate and provide a potential speaker list soon. Hsin-Fang suggested inviting a small number of speakers with expertise in computer science relevant to semiconductors. Jian-Jia proposed that the host professor at TU Dresden could be one of the speakers.

âž” Financial Report 2024 (Tsu-Wei)

Jian-Jia reported on behalf of Tsu-Wei. He mentioned that ticket payments for the conference cannot be reimbursed due to regulations of the non-profit association and tax policies. Jian-Jia will send an email to the supervisory board regarding the financial report.

The 2023 financial report has been approved by the Finanzamt, and the 2024 report needs to be approved first by the supervisory board. Next week, Tsu-Wei/Jian-Jia plans to send the 2024 report to the supervisory board for approval before submitting it to the Finanzamt.

âž” Online mentoring program 2025 (Zhan-Hong)

Jian-Jia asked Zhan-Hong regarding the ‘Young Mentor Program’ and the contacts with Tyra. Zhan-Hong expressed concern that the activities being conducted are very similar, which could lead to competition. Jian-Jia suggested merging efforts to maximize benefits for both groups. Zhan-Hong will reach out to Tyra and arrange a group meeting involving both sides for further discussion.

âž”  Interview (Podcast) series

Jian-Jia inquired whether we should continue with the interview series and whether any changes were needed, such as new podcast topics. Hsin-Fang suggested integrating the mentor program idea and including younger speakers, such as bachelor’s or master’s students, to share their experiences with studying and cultural integration, which could attract a younger audience. Zhan-Hong proposed following Tyra’s approach by involving postdocs or PhD students for this purpose. Kuan-Hsun suggested holding the podcast while still defining the overall goal of the series. Jian-Jia asked whether weekends would be suitable for the podcast and mentioned that they would also check with Gloria.
